West 39th St. Studio in NYC and a call to writers

Posted by admin | Uncategorized | Monday 15 June 2009 10:26 am

Today is my first day down here at the West 39th St. studio. It’s located at the Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts, so there are tons of other studios and artists around, but I haven’t seen any yet… It actually doesn’t seem like anyone is in their studio. Maybe they are just really quiet or because it is Monday; who knows? The studio is a really nice space with big windows and some natural lighting. It easily doubles the largest studio at SCAD Atlanta.

I’ve been contemplating whether or not I should keep updating this blog. As you can see the past few days I haven’t. I was running around looking at places to live once I graduate. I’ve been spending time with the family and I went to a show that a friend of mine had a work in over on Broome St. in Soho. I’ve been keeping busy, but do each of these actions warrant a blog update? On the other hand, maybe more updates will bring more viewers and more comments? Hmm…..

This blog is a super easy way to let everyone know what I am up to, but seriously, who wants to know exactly what I am doing everyday? I doubt it’s a random person online or even a friend on facebook. Most people treat a facebook status update like their personal blog. It seems that most people on social networking sites don’t navigate away from them to see what someone on their friend’s list is doing. They just check their friend’s status.

Anyway, enough rambling. My self referential exhibition catalog is finished and I’m looking for anyone who writes about art, fashion, interior design, or politics to write a review of the works, so I can include them in the exhibition catalog. Anyone who is interested, email me at jist(at)jonathanterranova(dot)com and I’ll give you the link to download the catalog. Or you can just go to my portfolio site and use the contact form on the bottom of any page.

That about does it. Until next time…

Back in New York!

Instead of creating another blog and worry about maintaining my portfolio site, this blog, and a new blog I decided to just use this blog to keep everyone updated on what I am doing this summer with the studio space I was awarded in NYC.

I left Atlanta Saturday to make the drive up to New York, which took like 17 1/2 hours (I made a few stops to see some family along the way).
I’m here on Long Island visiting family before I head to the studio space. I’m devoting this week to visiting family I haven’t seen in a while and looking for areas near the city where I could afford a place to live once I graduate next year.

As for work this summer, I’ve been developing a catalog that I plan on completing while I am here. More info on that to come. Stand by…

US Doctors’ association calls for Moratorium on GMO Foods

Posted by admin | Uncategorized | Tuesday 26 May 2009 3:43 pm

The American Academy of Environmental Medicine (AAEM) has just issued a call for suspension on Genetically Modified Foods. Check out some of the quotes and the original article from financialsense.com

“The AAEM chairperson, Dr Amy Dean notes that ‘Multiple animal studies have shown that GM foods cause damage to various organ systems in the body. With this mounting evidence, it is imperative to have a moratorium on GM foods for the safety of our patients’ and the public’s health.’”

“The AAEM study also reviewed the biotechnology industry claims that GMO foods can feed the world through production of higher crop yields. It cited contrary evidence that the opposite appeared to be true, namely that over time GMO harvest yields were lower than conventional yields and required over time, more not less, highly toxic herbicidal chemicals such as glyphosate.”

Sterile Lables now available!

You can now download the Impedire Co. Sterile Labels Sheet on the Sterile Lables page (Click the link to your left) or download them from the link below. The sheet contains 30 labels, each 1″ x 2 5/8″. The sterile label on the wheat bread in the image below was made from Avery’s Clear “Easy Peel” Address Labels. The sheet is formatted to fit all 30 labels, so it can easily be printed and placed on a number of items that contain genetically modified food. Spread the word, download the sheet and start sticking.

The new domain is finally up. www.ImpedireCo.com. In an effort to spread awareness about Monsanto-Cargill, Order 81- Re-Engineering Iraqi Agriculture, and Genetically Modified Foods I have added new packets that are more direct. They are linked on the left (Monsanto-Cargill Packets). The Impedire Co. packets are more subtle and are more suitable for areas where you do not want them to stick out too much.

Impedire in Latin means “to Impede,” which raises the question of who is impeding who?

Also, keep an eye out for new new stickers that will be available for download. They should be added in a few days.

Updates

The Wheat and Barley Packets (5.5MB | Hi-Res | PDF) are now available. As this project is still in development, things may changed. I may edit some information on the packets, but I plan on adding more packets in the coming weeks and more photos of the designer seeds in various consumer environments.

I’m still trying to find a web hosting company to provide the service in exchange for advertising. More information will come soon. For now, take a look around and leave a comment.

Send in some photos of the packets at stores I will post them on here.
